(April) Fool Me Once…
Happy April Fool’s Day! I luvs me some April Foolin’! Last year I sent a co-worker a fake FedEx delivery from http://brutaldildos.com. It was glorious! I haven’t figured out what tricks I will unleash this year and would love some ideas if you have any. Have been doing a little research RE the history of the day. Apparently in the UK and Canada, the jokes only last until noon – what gives???
The origin of April Fools’ Day is not clear. One theory is that it was first celebrated soon after the adoption of the Gregorian Calendar. Anyone still adhering to the Julian Calendar, which it replaced, was known as an April Fool. Also, May Day (May 1) was celebrated by many cultures as the first day of summer, marking the start of the spring planting season. Someone who did this prematurely was also called an April Fool. Along the same lines, some say April Fool pranks began in the day of the Druids when priests attempted to ward off evil spirits during the planting season.
Yet another origin is that the April Fool’s began when King Charles IX changed April 1 to 
January 1 as the first day of the year in France, some people stayed with April 1. Those who did were called “April Fools” and were taunted by neighbors. A possible reference to April Fools’ Day is found as far back as Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales (ca 1400) in the Nun’s Priest’s tale, a tale of two fools: Chanticleer and the fox, which took place on March 32nd.
None of this interesting but useless info has helped me form any solid ideas behind trickery for this year. However, the following link of Top 100 April Fool’s Day Hoaxes of All Time, definitely gave my brainstorming thunder for thought; enjoy!
