Updates to Tickle Your Funny Bone
by The $@bs
Well, they don’t really make you laugh as much as make your eyes roll to the back of your head and stay there. You know the updates of which I speak:
Whether on Twitter or Facebook, updates such as “Having my morning coffee“, “Off to lunch“, “Spaghettios for dinner tonight“, “Listening to (insert dumb song here)” just don’t seem to have much of a point. Why are you clogging up my stream with your nonsense? (That’s what she said?) If you don’t have anything interesting to say, why say anything at all?

While I agree in principle in regards to facebook; as I recall Twitter was first launched as a vehicle to coordinate sales teams in the field and such. I don’t tweet myself, since I’m challenged with a short attention span already w/o reducing things to 144 characters, but might give some updates the benefit of the doubt that they are meant for RL friends that might want to coordinate activities. Outside of a really special meal the gastronomic updates are truly SNS spam to me. If someone’s music post has a link, and it isn’t overplayed and/or trite I often appreciate them. One of the interesting things about SNS’s is the varying agenda, protocols and expectations one encounters.
